Matt Glover and Kathy Collins have been friends, co-authors, and co-presenters for over 10 years. Even though they support different baseball teams, and while Matt focuses more on writing and Kathy more on reading, they share the belief that identity, engagement, and inquiry are at the heart of an educational experience that all children deserve.
Kathy Collins is coauthor with Matt Glover of the Heinemann title I Am Reading. Kathy is the beloved author of Growing Readers as well as Reading for Real. She is also the co-author, with Jeanine Bempechat of No More Mindless Homework. She presents at conferences, leads institutes, and works in schools all over the world to support teachers in developing high-quality, effective, and engaging literacy instruction in preschool to middle school grades. Kathy was a first grade teacher in Brooklyn, New York. She lives in Durham, New Hampshire, with Ian, her math teacher husband, two sons, and one sweet dog.
Matt Glover has been a teacher, principal, author, and consultant for over 30 years. His newest book is How to Become a Better Writing Teacher, co-written with Carl Anderson. He is the author of Craft and Process Studies: Units that Provide Writers with Choice of Genre, co-author with Kathy Collins of I Am Reading, author of Engaging Young Writers, co-author with Mary Alice Berry of Projecting Possibilities for Writers, and coauthor with Katie Wood Ray of Already Ready and Watch Katie and Matt Sit Down and Teach Up, a video enhance ebook that combines video and text to examine conferring with young writers. Along with Ellin Keene, Matt is the coeditor of The Teacher You Want to Be: Essays about Children, Learning, and Teaching. An internationally known literacy consultant, Matt frequently speaks on topics related to nurturing writers, early reading, and supporting children’s intellectual development. Matt lives outside of Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife Bridget, four children, and two dogs. Go, Reds!
